Stockholm, Sweden, December 15 – The Sungrow Utility Connect Stockholm 2025 last week showed the increasing need for flexibility in the Swedish energy system and how solar and battery storage solutions can be beneficial to the Swedish energy sector. According to the industry association Energiföretagen’s report Sveriges elbehov 2045, Sweden’s electricity consumption is expected to rise from today’s approximately 140 TWh to as much as 330 TWh per year.
The rapidly growing demand, combined with a more weather-dependent electricity production mix, is making flexibility increasingly important — positioning energy storage as a key part of the solution. Expansion is already underway: according to the Swedish Energy Agency, the capacity of grid-scale battery parks in Sweden increased sixfold last year.
“Industry response clearly shows how strong the interest in energy storage together with large scale PV is and the role battery systems will play in the Nordics going forward. We are pleased to bring together so many stakeholders and contribute to the dialogue on the future of the energy system,” says Samer Nameer, Country Manager Sweden at Sungrow.
A growing interest in battery storage across the Nordics
Sungrow has already delivered several battery storage installations across Sweden and the wider Nordic region — including one of the world’s northernmost 30 MW / 60 MWh battery systems, located near the Arctic Circle in Simo, Finland. The project uses 26 pre-configured, liquid-cooled battery containers of the PowerTitan type to stabilise the grid as more wind and solar power are integrated.
The PowertTitan battery storage solution is designed to meet growing demands for scalability, efficiency and grid stability and is built on an integrated AC-Block design. This simplifies installation, reduces land requirements and can be adapted to projects of various sizes and environments.
