Barcelona, Spain – April 29th, 2024 - Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, is excited that its SG110CX string inverter has been utilized for one of the most innovative and impressive applications of PV systems in Europe.
The Barcelona City Council's commitment to the decarbonization of infrastructures translates into this great project in La Ronda de Dalt, a ring road of the city of Barcelona. The vertical walls of the tunnel have been utilized for the installation of a 93.84 kWp PV plant, providing energy for the lighting system of the tunnel. The self-consumption ratio is close to 100%, while the PV system covers around 30% of the total energy needed for the lighting of the tunnel.
However, what makes this project really special is the aesthetic issue, since the idea was to create a mosaic by coloring the modules with colored cells. In this way, the PV installation more than its contribution to sustainability, provides an aesthetically unique feature, with the inspired alignment of the three different colored panels creating essentially an urban piece of art.
Sungrow’s string inverter SG110CX, one of the most popular C&I inverters in Europe, has been installed to provide efficient conversion of the DC-generated power from the panels. It provides a high yield with up to 98.7% efficiency, smart O&M and the utmost levels of safety and robustness, with IP66 and C5 protections ratings.
The draft of this innovative in Barcelona was 50% subsidized by Europe through the INMAB Project and carried out by Estudi d'arquitectura CODI and SULMAG. The installation cost was covered by the city council.
