Sungrow's C&I energy storage system (ESS), PowerStack, will be installed this autumn in three projects in Spain
Leading research and development manufacturer Sungrow will supply its C&I energy storage system and ees Award 2023 winner PowerStack, to three different projects during the months of September and October.
The PowerStack is an ESS designed to fit the needs of commercial and industrial self-consumption projects and small power plants. This solution will be used to hybridise two power plants in the province of Jaén. Each of these projects will have a power of 500kVA and 1140kWh. This solution will supply energy from battery storage for 2 hours.
The third project, located in Guadalajara, will provide power to an industrial plant. Sungrow will supply both the storage system and the photovoltaic inverters to this industrial self-consumption facility. One of the most important aspects of this zero feed-in project is the EMS control and monitoring system. The EMS optimises the generation curve and adapts the production to the consumption needs of the company and thus maximises the self-consumption of renewable energy.
One of the most important aspects of the PowerStack is its innovative liquid cooling system. Liquid cooling stands out from air cooling because it is more homogeneous and stable, avoiding temperature gradients. In this case, the PowerStack achieves a high temperature homogeneity in the battery cabinet. Reducing the maximum temperature difference between cells to only 2.5ºC. The temperature uniformity allows us to extend the service life of the LFP battery. In addition, the energy consumption of the auxiliary systems is much lower, as the liquid is a better thermal conductor than air. Finally, the PowerStack is completely assembled in the factory, which means that it can be installed and commissioned in record time, reducing the CAPEX of the project and speeding up work in the field.
About the ees Award:
The ees (electrical energy storage) AWARD is presented by solar promotions, an international organizer for exhibition series in the renewable industry. The energy award pays tribute to pioneering products and solutions for stationary and mobile electrical energy storage systems. The range of innovations encompasses the entire value-added chain of innovative battery and energy storage technologies - from components to concrete applications and business models.
